Postpartum Care

As community midwives, we excel at postpartum care. It’s why our breastfeeding rates at 6 weeks exceed 99%! Bringing care to you–rather than you getting baby and new mom into a car to a doctor’s office (that has sick kids!)–speeds healing and helps keep mom and baby healthy. Because we are in your home, we can identify ways to create an environment conducive to breastfeeding success and overall recovery.

At minimum, we provide home visits on approximately days 1, 3, and 7, and additionally after on an as-needed basis. We’ll assess mom and baby vitals, provide breastfeeding support, perform the newborn screening, assess for jaundice, weigh baby, and check maternal healing.  We’ll send a report to your baby’s doctor. We assess for postpartum depression and anxiety as well, and serve as a first point of contact for community resources.

Because we feel so strongly about this type of care, we also offer mother/baby postpartum home care, including breastfeeding support, for women birthing in the hospital. More than ninety-nine percent of our clients are successfully (and exclusively) breastfeeding at 6 weeks, and we’d love to see that statistic hold true for all women in our county, no matter where they choose to give birth.
